Tucket, an oil portrait
Sep 1st
I like to get an idea of the dog’s personality before I paint their portraits. When Tucket’s family told me her favorite activity is duck hunting it posed an interesting challenge for me. I wasn’t quite sure how to incorporate this into the portrait. I did several small sketches to get a better idea of what kind of portrait her family wanted. In the end they chose a portrait of her standing proudly over her days work. I combined elements of several photographs to create this portrait. I used the pose of one photograph and added the bright warm colors of another to create a happier tone.
Helsem Bend Backyard
Aug 31st
This is a house portrait I did for a Realtor as a new home owner gift. It is a 9×12 art marker drawing. It is the first portrait I have done of a backyard, which created some challenges. I couldn’t go to the house to take more references pictures so I had to work from the images I was given. The images were dark which made it difficult to see some details. I brightened everything up for the drawing to give it a sunnier feel.
The Wedding Party Studio Mural
Aug 31st
When The Wedding Party Studio in uptown was updating their look they had to paint over an existing mural. I painted a mural with a similar feel to their previous mural, but in line with the updated color scheme. I also incorporated their logo, two birds sitting on a branch. This was my first large scale mural, over 8′x10′. Except for a minor incident involving me sitting in paint it went really well. Everyone was really happy with it.
